Highlights From The District Math And Science Presentations:

Members of the elementary and secondary administrative team will share updates on new programs in the math, science, and technology areas.

Dr. Principato and Mr. Smith – Elementary

Mr. Yamamoto – Secondary

  • Dr. Principato is explained the new approach in the math curriculum. Teaching using different learning methods for different learning styles.
  • Mr. Smith is explained how more STEAM is being incorporated into the Science curriculum.
  • Elementary Schools are using an interdisciplinary approach in lessons for Math and Science.
  • Mr. Smith showed how 3rd grade is using journaling in their science class.
  • There was a presentation about an elective science class at the secondary level. Mostly Juniors and Seniors.
  • There was a presentation about course available in Genomics.
  • Starting in the Miiddle School, students have the ability to learn block coding for Apps and robotics.

Highlights from The Buildings, Grounds & Finance Committee:

  • Cleanup at the stadium is ongoing
  • Early Childhood is still looking for space
  • Info about a Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grant Program

Highlights From Public Comment:

A resident was impressed by the electives that are available and echoed the request for more students and people to be made aware of ongoing programs.

Another parent wanted to ask for follow-up on the idea of starting “Share Tables” in Collingswood Schools.

 

Next Board of Education Meeting will be on 12/17/2018 due to the Winter Break.

Jen Rossi, Vice President Jen Rossi moved to Collingswood with her spouse in 2012. She is a graduate of Georgian Court University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Fine Art. She has a certificate of eligibility with advanced standing in Elementary Education (K-5) and as a Teacher of Fine Art (K-12). After a part-time floating position and substitute teaching, Jen returned to the corporate world. Professionally Jen is a Digital Marketing Manager for a privately owned insurance brokerage, providing important information on how to reduce the risks in today's business world: ranging from slip and fall injuries to computer network hacks. Getting the information in the hands of people who need it with the help of guidebooks, webinars, instructional videos, blog posts, social media alerts, and online courses. With this background in education and knowledge of the process for communicating important information to anyone willing to hear it, Jen focuses her energy on making a big impact with small things- making life a little more convenient, helping people get informed, keeping things practical and timely, and encouraging achievable goals for success. In her free time, Jen loves upcycling, improving, and otherwise repurposing materials to the delight of family, neighbors, and Etsy customers. She looks forward to running down questions and getting helpful information into social feeds and inboxes of members of the Collingswood community.
